Autumn Dusting in 90th Annual Spring Salon

I am proud to announce that my painting Autumn Dusting has been accepted into the 90th Annual Spring Salon at the Springville Museum of Art. I am always happy to be accepted an I was pleased to see many of my friends and several former students on the accepted list. The announcement of the award winners is yet to come, so my fingers are still crossed for that also. The show opens this Wednesday, April 23rd, 2014 and runs through July 6th.

"Beckoning the Peace of Wild Things" Acquired By SMA

Permanent Collection. Those two lovely words now apply to my painting "Beckoning the Peace of Wild Things" which has been purchased through a donor for the Springville Museum of Art. The painting had previously been accepted into the 89th Annual Springville Spring Salon and was then recently selected to become part of the museum's permanent collection. The donor family felt that of all the pieces in the show, my painting best represented the values of hard work and the heritage of agriculture that the region was known for.

I am jumping the gun a bit by announcing this on my blog since the formal museum announcement has not yet been made, but I have received a check, so I figure why not toot my horn a little. At some future date there will be a press release and a photo op, but I am so excited, I wanted to share the news. This is the first museum to purchase one of my pieces for their permanent collection, but I hope it is only the first of many. More news will be forthcoming soon, but I am understandably tickled with this news. If you are in the area, the Spring Salon runs until July 7th, 2013.

Misty Morning - Sold

"I accidentally sold your painting" was the message on my machine the other day. The caller was Vern Swanson, director of the Springville Museum of Art. Of course I was initially confused since I had marked the painting as NFS when dropping it off as one of my entries in the 88th Spring Salon. I called Vern and he explained the situation. A collector had wanted to buy my other entry Canyon Romance but was informed that it was already sold. I had marked Misty Morning as not for sale because I had pulled it from my gallery Williams Fine Art to enter into the show and did not want to step on any toes by selling it out from under them. So to make a long story short(ish) a couple of phone calls later, Springville worked out the commission with the gallery, the painting is sold (though it didn't even make the show)and all is well. Except then I found out that my wife really loved that painting after months of hanging in our living room. Now its gone. I guess I will have to paint another one that she can love. 

Canyon Romance in 88th Spring Salon

Yesterday I got word that my painting Canyon Romance has been accepted into the 88th Annual Springville Spring Salon. The Salon is always very competitive with nearly a thousand entries from which 251 were accepted. I am pleased and honored to be among such strong company including many of my friends and even a couple of former students. I look forward to seeing the show which opens tomorrow night, Friday April 20, 2012.
