I found out yesterday that I have been having a really good week of sales at my newest gallery Evergreen Framing Co. & Gallery. All six of the paintings in this post have sold. Evergreen is a full service gallery and frame shop that along with paintings represents artists who create an eclectic selection of art pieces and handcrafted gifts. I am pleased to join their talented group of artists. It doesn't hurt that they are the closest gallery to my neighborhood either, making them effectively my "local" gallery.

Six of my paintings have sold in the last little while and I could not be more pleased with the news.
Sometimes sales are slow and then inexplicably, a whole bundle of collectors appear. I'll take it!

I am slated to be part of group show at the gallery there in September, but with these recent sales, I will need to restock them before that, so I am going to be a busy boy! Thanks Evergreen for the shot in the arm. Now back to work.

Monolith- Finished

Just finished this one up today. I am particularly happy with the feeling of distance that I was able to convey with the atmospheric perspective. I also like that as I do more and more of these paintings, I become less attached. There was a time when I couldn't imagine letting go of my paintings, let alone my favorites. Over the years, I have done so much work, it becomes easier to see them go. In illustration, I always got the work back so it was not an issue. Working in the gallery market now, I have had to adjust to a different train of thought: that I am sharing my vision with the public and that letting the paintings go is part of the creative process. Also, getting a check is a nice motivator.

Canyon Romance in 88th Spring Salon

Yesterday I got word that my painting Canyon Romance has been accepted into the 88th Annual Springville Spring Salon. The Salon is always very competitive with nearly a thousand entries from which 251 were accepted. I am pleased and honored to be among such strong company including many of my friends and even a couple of former students. I look forward to seeing the show which opens tomorrow night, Friday April 20, 2012.

Canyon Romance - Almost Finished

The wonders of the Grand Canyon cannot be adequately represented in symbols of speech nor by speech itself. The resources of the graphic art are taxed beyond their powers in attempting to portray its features... The glories and beauties of form, color and sound unite in the Grand Canyon... It has infinite variety and no part is ever duplicated. Its colors, although many and complex at any instant, change with the ascending and declining sun... You cannot see the Grand Canyon in one view...but to see it you have to toil from month to month through this labyrinths...but if strength and courage are sufficient for the task, by a year's toil a concept of sublimity can be obtained never again to be equaled on hither side of Paradise."

We can behold what a river and time are capable of creating, but can anyone adequately capture the power and grandeur of the Grand Canyon? I am not sure, but this obstacle will not keep me or  countless other artists from trying. I am almost finished with this Grand Canyon painting. I have a few more passages that I want to push and a few highlights and details to add, but I think I am about 95% complete at this point.I am sure my gallery, Williams Fine Art, will be glad to see it.
